Minecraft (Pocket Edition)
Block of Coal
Obtaining
A Block of Coal is obtained by crafting mined Coal (see recipe below).
Usage / Purpose
There are two main reasons to create a blocks of ores and minerals. First, it is a very compact method of storage. Typically you store up to 64 ingots or units per inventory slot. When the item is turned into a block you can stack 64 blocks worth, which is 576 units per inventory slot. The second reason is to use them as entirely decorative blocks.
With Coal there is a third reason, which is that a Block is a more efficient fuel source in Furnaces than the equivalent number of individual units of Coal. The following number of smelts are achieved with each comparable fuel type:
- Block of Coal: 80
- Lava Bucket: 100
- Coal (9 units): 72
- Charcoal (9 units): 72
Drops / Yields
A Block of Coal can be reverted into the nine Coals it came from.
