Objective
Students will take apart and examine different parts in toys, through this they will better understand the concept of cause and effect in simple machines.
Materials
- broken toys that operate through cause and effect, ask students to bring their own, or you can buy some from thrift stores or garage sales
- a variety of tools, tiny screw drivers, hammers, pliers, etc.
- recording sheets based on the one below:

Method
- Hand out toys to each student and let them take the toys apart.
- As they take the pieces off, ask them to choose at least three that cause other parts to move and place them in the appropriate boxes on the recording sheet.
- Have students share these with the rest of the class.
