Examining a Character’s Personalities

Suggested Grades

4+

Objective

Students will be able to understand the different personalities of a character by examining how they act when in contact with other characters.

Materials

  • a book that has a character that acts differently when around different characters
  • large drawing paper

Method

  • After reading the book, ask students to examine the central character and how that character acts around at least one other character. Split a piece of paper into the number of situations that you want the students to examine. In each section, ask students to write down short descriptions of how the character acts, talks, and feels in each situation.
  • For each situation, ask students to draw a general profile of how they think the character’s face looks like, and within each profile write down the descriptions that they generated. Under each profile write down the situation dealt with (ie: Suzy with her mother).
