Examining a Change in Character

Students will better understand the change a character goes through by examining how they are at the beginning of the story and at the end.

a book that has a central character that changes their personality greatly when compared to how they are at the beginning of the book
large drawing paper
crayons, pencil crayons, or markers

After reading the book, ask students to examine the character at the beginning of the book. How do they look like?, how do they act? what/who do they like/not like?, what do others say about them?, etc..(things that reveal their personalities)
Fold a large piece of drawing paper in half. On the first half of the paper, ask students to draw a picture of the central character at the beginning of the book, and list the answers they came up with to the questions above.
When done, have students examine the same character at the end of the book, repeating the process they went through for the character at the beginning of the book, but draw and list the answers on the other side of the drawing paper.
Ask each student to explain their drawings to you, pointing out the differences in the character.
