Character Diary Entry

Objective

Students will better understand a character after examining their traits as well as trying to write a diary entry from their perspective.

Materials

  • a book with a strong character

Method

  • After reading the book, ask student to pick a character that they would like to “be”. Have students write down a list of their characteristics, especially paying close attention about how the character talks/writes.
  • Ask students to pick a major event that the character goes through and write a diary entry from the character’s point of view, keeping in mind the list of their characteristics. The entry should not only describe the event, but also reveal how the character feels about it.
