Spelling Bee/Musical Chairs

Objective

Students will learn to spell and recognize vocabulary words and/or spelling words with at least 95 percent accuracy.

Materials

  • chairs
  • spelling words

Method

To involve my students in learning to spell and/or recognize words, I have them play musical chairs with spelling words.

  • Teacher spells a word from the spelling list. Then says “Spell!” which begins the game.
  • Students walk around chairs spelling the word.
  • When they finish spelling the word they find a seat. The person without a seat is out of the game.
  • Note: I usually leave all chairs in so no one is left out at the end.
