Five varieties of Stained Clay are found naturally in the Mesa Biome (Red, Light Gray, White, Brown, and Orange), but Stained Clay can also be crafted by adding dye to Hardened Clay.

The following types of Stained Clay can be created:

Usage / Purpose

The use for Stained Clay is as a decorative building block. It is smoother than wool and has a higher blast-resistance to Creeper explosions. It is also a flame resistant building material, unlike wood.


Stained Clay is stored in stacks of up to 64 units.


Black Stained Clay

In the above example, Nine blocks of Hardened Clay are combined with one unit of Ink Sac to create Black Stained Clay.
