Coupon Money

Objective

Students will practice representing written money into actual money.

Materials

• a collection of coupons in a box (ask students to bring some from home too)
• play money(optional)
• piece of paper
• writing utensils
• glue

Method

• Wander around from student to student and ask each of them to put their hand in the box and take out a coupon.
• Have students glue their coupon on one side of their piece of paper.
• On the other side of the paper, explain to sudents that you would like them to draw the coins and/or the bills that would be needed to equal the amount on the coupon. You may want to use play money instead, to prevent the obstacle of drawing.
• Repeat the process.
